Jordan Bromine Company is pleased to announce an opportunity for the position of Mechanical Materials Engineer.The role involves managing and planning materials, supporting procurement, reviewing technical offers, and ensuring quality and compliance with specifications.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate in accordance with the directives of the Materials Management Supervisor to ensure the provision of required materials to the plants in compliance with approved engineering specifications and in quantities appropriate to the scale of plant operations.
  • Provide support in identifying the need for regular maintenance procedures for mechanical equipment and in preparing backup lists for critical spare parts and equipment.
  • Monitor stock levels of mechanical materials that have fallen below the minimum inventory threshold, and review and assess their necessity with the relevant departments.
  • Offer technical support and assistance in identifying the correct parts and equipment required for mechanical maintenance operations, ensuring their timely availability and sufficient quantities.
  • Determine the need to purchase materials in adequate quantities, reviewing and assessing the necessary lead time for supply, manufacturing, and shipping to guarantee material availability and prevent shortages.
  • Issue purchase requests for materials as needed by the plants, based on historical data and experience with mechanical equipment failures.
  • Assist the Procurement Department in identifying suppliers and manufacturers capable of delivering the required materials and parts in accordance with the high-quality engineering specifications.
  • Review technical proposals received from the Procurement Department and determine the most appropriate offers in terms of quality, cost, and delivery time, and recommend their approval.
  • Respond to all technical inquiries from manufacturers regarding technical specifications and delivery times for required materials, equipment, and parts.
  • Review technical and engineering documents submitted by manufacturers, such as design drawings, engineering calculations, catalogs, diagrams of part components and specifications, and required technical certifications for materials.
  • Archive and document all technical materials purchased, including design and engineering drawings, engineering calculations, operation and maintenance manuals, technical certificates, safety instructions, and other required documents.
  • Inspect and examine incoming materials, equipment, and parts from manufacturers to ensure conformity with required technical specifications, and coordinate with relevant departments for specialized technical testing when necessary.
  • Coordinate with concerned departments regarding expected delivery dates of materials and parts required for their operations to support planning and scheduling based on material availability.
  • Participate in analyzing the causes of mechanical equipment failures that require modifications or upgrades to specifications of equipment, materials, and spare parts that should be stocked in the warehouse.
  • Manage the process of modifying specifications of equipment, materials, and mechanical parts to ensure the availability of updated specifications and prevent mixing with outdated or obsolete specifications.
  • Track mechanical materials and parts whose specifications have been canceled and determine the appropriate action in accordance with the plant’s requirements in other locations or based on approved procedures for disposal.
  • Define the appropriate environmental storage conditions for mechanical materials and parts, including requirements for cooling, sun or rain exposure tolerance, etc.
  • Monitor the usability of mechanical materials based on their manufacturing and expiration dates and issue new purchase requests in a timely manner to ensure material availability in accordance with plant needs.
  • Assist in providing engineering solutions to other departments for sourcing the materials they require, based on understanding of approved engineering specifications and availability of suitable materials.
  • Generate reports indicating the value of materials in the warehouse and any changes in their value resulting from withdrawals or new purchases.
  • Monitor ongoing expansion and development projects in the plants by identifying required spare parts and obsolete items, assessing reuse potential in other locations, and coordinating with engineers to introduce new parts and materials in accordance with approved engineering specifications.
  • Participate in implementing corrective actions resulting from safety incidents, including modification of material specifications to enhance safety in use.

Skills Description

Educational Qualification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or in a closely related engineering discipline.

Professional Certifications and Training

  • Professional certifications in engineering material specifications such as:
  • ASME Standards for Piping and Pressure Vessels, ISO Pump Specifications, FRP Equipment and Piping, Oil and Grease Specifications, Polymer Elastic Materials Specifications, etc. (Considered an added advantage)
  • Warehouse management certifications such as:
  • Certified Warehouse Professional (CWP), Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP), Supply Chain and Warehouse Management Certification (SCWM), etc. (Considered an added advantage)
  • Certifications and training in public safety. (Considered an added advantage)

Work Experience

  • 1 to 3 years of experience in material and equipment specifications within a similar industry.

Required knowledge

  • Familiarity with material, equipment, and component specifications as per international and specialized engineering standards.
  • Inventory management strategies, including planning techniques, forecasting, demand estimation, and inventory control optimization.
  • Understanding of material lead times, manufacturing durations, export procedures, and air/sea freight logistics, and their impact on delivery speed of materials and components.
  • In-depth knowledge of mechanical systems and equipment components relevant to the industry, with the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Knowledge of maintenance procedures, problem-solving techniques, and repair methodologies for various types of equipment.
  • Understanding of storage requirements for different types of parts and equipment based on their nature and characteristics, such as sensitivity to humidity or high temperatures.
  • Knowledge of optimal environmental conditions for storing different types of parts and equipment to preserve their quality.
  • Understanding of part and equipment labeling principles and standard industrial storage guidelines.
  • Knowledge of material procurement principles and procedures in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and approved company policies.
